Donate to Age Concern Sir Gar

Age Concern Sir Gâr is autonomous and as such seeks its own funding to run its valuable services. Donations, Legacies etc are always welcome. There are many ways in which you can make a donation.

Giving regularly

Why give regularly? The number of older people in Carmarthenshire grows every year, especially those in frail health. We need to plan ahead and to do this we constantly need to fundraise. Fundraising is a large part of a charity’s year and it's needed to expand services, consolidate those already provided and promote campaigns. We can only do this if we have dependable and growing income.

Donations

How much should I give?

That is entirely up to you. You can also choose how often you want to give – whether annually, quarterly or monthly or as a one off donation. For example, you may choose to give a large amount each year, or a few pounds each month or a one–off large or small donation. If you wish to donate regularly and you are a UK tax payer. Please can you complete our Gift Aid Form (PDF 28K) .

The most cost effective way to set up your regular gift is through Direct Debit or Standing Order to the organisation. For more information, please contact the office.

Legacies

Age Concern Sir Gâr is very grateful for any donations or legacies that aid us in our work in ensuring older people live full and independent lives with choice and good quality of life. You can help us safeguard the future of older people in Carmarthenshire by remembering us in your Will. Legacies play an important role in the welfare of older people both locally and nationally. Age Concern England have produced a Will to Change magazine (PDF 355KB) which includes information about Age Concern and how your gift of a legacy will help our work to continue. This may be downloaded from the Age Concern England website.

The magazine includes information on:

  • Terminology used in Wills – terms and phrases made simple
  • Advice on keeping your Will up-to-date
  • Practical information on how to remember Age Concern Sir Gâr in your Will

However, please let us know if you have included Age Concern Sir Gâr in your Will using our pledge form, in order for us to plan for the future.

The Big Knit: a huge success across Wales

Age Concern knitters across Wales have been busy knitting little woolly hats to raise money to help local Age Concerns provide services for older people. Thousands of knitters around Wales rose to Innocent Drinks’ Big Knit challenge and made some very creative little hats.

With the help of our knitting friends, Age Concerns across the principality have made a staggering 35,200 hats that will raise £17,600 for Age Concern organisations across Wales. This was 12,379 hats more than in 2007. Thank you to everyone who has made hats to help us reach this target.”

Can you knit?

Since 2004 Innocent Smoothies, Sainsbury’s and Age Concern have worked together to raise awareness about the effect of cold weather on older people whilst also raising much needed funds. It’s a really sad and largely unknown fact that in Wales every winter more than 1,300 older people die from preventable cold related illness – a higher rate than Russia and Finland. The money raised from the Big Knit will ensure our work on providing advice and information on how to stay fit, healthy and active during the winter months, as well as how to keep houses warm can continue, and hopefully we will see this shocking figure reduce.

All we ask is for volunteers to knit little woolly hats that fit on top of innocent smoothie bottles and are then sold in the autumn in Sainsbury’s stores. For every hat sold Age Concern receives 50p. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a Sainsbury’s nearby - you can still take part as all monies come back to us. In 2007 more than £45,000 was raised for Age Concern in Wales – and this year we want to be bigger and better.

All funds raised by Age Concern Sir Gâr knitters will go to fund the work in Carmarthenshire.

Would you like to help Age Concern Sir Gâr fundraise in a fun easy way? Ring us for a pattern. We continue to build our team of knitters, would you like to be one? If you’d like to knit for us, but don’t have any wool, just let us know and we’ll provide the wool. Alternatively, if you have wool and don’t want to knit, you can donate wool to us. A big thank you also to all our knitters who helped us knit 312 hats this year – can we beat that figure next year.

You need do nothing except knit tiny bobble hats. It is hoped, but not yet confirmed (watch this space), that the very successful Age Concern Big Knit campaign will again run in 2009 - however the deadline for 2008 has passed and Carmarthenshire knitters have raised £150 for this Age Concern. If you are interested in helping us bust this figure next year, please ring us on 01554 784080.
