Common scams in Wales

Common scams in Wales range from rogue traders turning up on doorsteps to carry out dodgy work to claims people have won competitions they have never entered. One that keeps occuring is letters sent to people telling them they have won the Spanish lottery. The victim has to pay a £100 or £200 arrangement fee before the money is released which, of course, never arrives.

Digital Switchover Scam

Another scam is looking to take advantage of the digital TV switchover said Anglesey principal trading standards officer David Owen. “We have already had complaints from two or three people who are being urged to pay up £150 to £200 to get packages to prepare for the analogue to digital switch which they don’t need,” he said.
